Hey kids! It's the Goldeen Lips and Gengar Teeth show! (j/k)

As a tie-in with HeartGold and SoulSilver and a bit of a nod to the first picture, the Mask has once again come to the world of Pokemon again...sorta. This time in the world of the games rather than the anime, so no Ash Ketchum or Gary Oak but their original parallel counterparts Red and Green (or Blue if you follow NOA's naming) are around. Also unlike the anime, time marches on. So some familiar trainers have grown some.

This time the victims are Cerulean City leader Misty and Sabrina of Saffron City both of the Kanto Region. Despite the framing of the picture they don't get the Mask at the same time. They're both isolated events really.

So how does the Mask wind up in the world of Pokemon you might ask? Well it's not impossible when you think about it. There are Pokemon that can alter the fabric of time, space and reality itself now and they're not even fan-made. Arceus save us all...

Misty

Date after date after date.

3 years ago, Cerulean City's bright star and tomboyish prodigy of the Pokemon League would never let up in the face of battle and was always unforgiving even against the newest trainers. Despite of past interviews, very little were aware she was a hopeless romantic... at least back then. Nowadays there isn't a day when a trainer stops by at the Cape to find her with a new boyfriend.

On occasion she'd receive love letters, gifts, even chocolates from boys not just in Kanto, but regions like Isshu, Orre, Hoenn and even Almia as well. One gift however, was quite strange. It didn't have a name, or even a return address. It only said one thing on the wrapping.

"From an admirer."

She froze looking at the package. It wasn't fear, she wasn't even creeped out by the secrecy. "Red..." she thought, or rather assumed. She knew it a very slim chance it came from him, but just the thought alone kept her intrigue.

One of Misty's subordinates peered into the room knocking her out of her fantasy, "Hey captain, hate to bother you at a time like this. We got some kid from Johto here and he..." the swimmer's face was met with the bottom of a flying sandal "PARKER YOU IDIOT! KNOCK FIRST!" he laughed off the pain, backing out to to door "Sorry to down your good mood, but you are the Gym Leader after all." Misty let off a disappointed sigh "Damn, I thought I had more downtime." "Can it wait?" usually she didn't mind showing off her gifts to her fellow trainers, but this one she was cradling. Parker backed out of the door "Of course, I'll be sure to tell him."

She tore apart the paper wrappings and opened the box. A ... mask? Oh there was a note under it. "The romantic or the battler. Which is your true face? This Mask will reveal it all." Was this some kind of joke? All that hope and waiting, all that excitement for some dumb old Mask from some faceless stranger? She tossed the Mask aside into the pile of letters and packages and headed for the door, "Screw this." but she couldn't shake the feeling of frustration and disappointment just yet. Enraged, she threw a few of the unopened packages against the wall, some of them splattering chocolate and other making a hard cracking noise. She then proceeded to kick the pile of of letters all a-scatter, feeling she got her anger out she lifted her head to the ceiling. "That felt go-" she then forgot about the Mask she sent flying in the air now closing in on her face.

-------

"What's taking her so long?" Gold was playing cards with his Feraligatr "Does your Gym Leader ALWAYS make people wait up like this?" Diana, another one of Misty's underlings couldn't help but smile at the comment "I take it you don't hear much about our Misty do you?" the knob on Misty's door slowly started to turn, "Finally! Alright Feraligatr it's showtime!"

A familiar yet strangely warped voice filled the room "Sorr--eee---to keep you all wai~~~~~ting!" a female figure whooshed out the door soon afterward.

It was Misty alright, but her face was now a lime green color of what looked like a mixture of latex and heavy make-up. The other trainers of the Cerulean Gym were left dumbfounded. "Hon, what kind of freaky looking facial is that?!" "What are you talking about Diana? I always looked like this!"

"I guess you guys don't have a lot of mirrors in this gym." Gold joked, "SHUT UP!" all of the trainers (save for Misty) said in unison. Misty's heart started to beat out her chest, "Whoa, guys. You should have told me this one was a cutie!" her eyes were fixated on Gold, she zipped over to Gold's side "You kind of remind me of a guy." he slinked back a little "Listen, I'm flattered, I really am, it's just that kinda I'm seeing this girl back at Goldenrod and this isn't what I ex--" Misty started to pucker her huge lips in his direction "Yikes! Um... guys? Little help?"

Sabrina

The Fighting Gym at Saffron City was a good meeting spot for Gym Leaders between Johto and Kanto. No trainers would come in expecting badges and it was often reserved for private manners among Pokemon League officials. Today was no exception.

"So that's how it was huh?" Sabrina looked at the Mask, "I gotta say Misty, it doesn't sound TOO different from your usual routine." a sheepish look crossed Misty's face as she stared off to the side feeling embarrassed about almost forcing herself on a trainer, "I guess, but usually wait I until AFTER a battle to hit on a guy plus that Mask made me go against my policy on getting shot down!"

"..."

"Where do I fit in?"

"Well I was going to get rid of it, but I thought you could do a reading or something. I don't know."

Sabrina removed a limiter band from her left wrist "Okay, but if something bad happens, I'll never take fashion advice from you or Erika again." Touching the Mask with half her liberated Psychic energy, a surge of images flashed in her mind.

"Interesting..." Sabrina dropped the Mask in a cold sweat, panting heavily.

"Don't push yourself so hard." Misty helped her friend regain her balance, "I'm fine. It was just a History lesson is all."

---

Misty got a description of what Sabrina saw, some of the past wearers that used it and where it's been.

"I can't believe something like that even exists..."

"It is a potentially dangerous object, but it heavily depends on the person. Some killed with it, some just go outright silly and others just like the power. Considering what happened to you Misty? I'd say you were actually better off than some."

A moment of dead silence followed.

"There's another thing I remembered. I don't know about those other places I saw but something might give us a hint on how it got here." Sabrina noted as she put her band back on, Misty started to hunch over in anxiety "Before that though, would you like to hear about your mysterious admirer?"

"Nah, I don't care about that anymore. Just get on with it." (it really isn't that important)

"Palkia."

"Palkia?"

"Well it makes sense, people say Palkia has the power to distort space and even travel between worlds. If the Mask came from another world, chances are good Palkia accidentally brought it here."

Misty checked outside the building and the perimeter once more, "What now? It's not like we could just leave it here." Sabrina pulled the Mask back and smirked "Yeah, you're right."

"So Misty, was it fun?" Sabrina asked while staring the the outer face of the Mask. "H-hold on, we gotta get rid of that thing!" Sabrina's expression changed, "Now I'm all for getting rid of it and not letting it fall in the wrong hands... I'm just a little curious about how it feels first hand is all." an air of uncertainty filled the room "I don't know ..."

"We'll be getting rid of this thing anyway. Just this once okay? You can make sure I don't go TOO crazy!"

"Yeah, but I don't have ESP." Misty thought, "You have Pokemon to help, don't you." replied Sabrina, reminding the tomboy she can mind-read.

Sabrina raised the Mask to her face causing an inward typhoon to shake the Gym asunder. When the storm subsided she emerged looking almost the same, except as Misty mentioned before her face was covered in a rubbery green membrane, sporting an impish grin not unlike a Gengar. Despite the fact she was wearing both limiters her psychic Aura emanated from her body at an uncontrollable rate.

"Hehehehehe.... mmmm, this is different." The demonic Sabrina bellowed, "I wonder what'd happen if I took my bracelets off." Misty grabbed her hand as soon as it motioned to remove one of the limiters, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?" the Masked Sabrina snapped, "U-u-umm...W-why don't we go to the Spear Pillar in Sinnoh first? You can go all out there." "Che... I really don't like being told what to do, but you have a point. No sense in making a bunch of weaklings here cry," a set of dolls representing Palkia, Dialga, Giratina and Arceus were produced out of thin air "When I can show my power off to the GODS -- Nah, I'm just messing wit' cha. Let's just raise some hell instead"

At that night a horrifying cackle could be heard throughout Saffron City. It was a sign of absolute chaos.

Did...

Did I just read a... Pokemon/The Mask crossover fic...?

Allow me to shovel my brain back into my earhole for a second...

Holy shit, this is amazing. Fucking bra-vo, dude, you definitely got me wondering what the hell happens next. Love your characterizations of them, too. Great nod to how the Mask unlocks a person's hidden self.
