Well, definitely not the first time (or the last) The Mask appears in the Pokémon universe. This time falling into the hands of a PLAYABLE character -- that hasn't made an anime appearance I mean. May had her shot [link] and if you don't think "Blue" and Leaf are separate people (can't imagine why), ditto for her too [link]

There's plans to diversify other series sure, but I'd be lying if I said I was retiring this series for Mask crossovers any time soon.

Summary

Hilda (or Touko/トウコ if you prefer the Japanese name -- "White" if you prefer manga canon) finds a strange Mask during a dive in the Abyssal Ruins. Feeling oddly attached to its design, she takes it home as a souvenir. When she leaves to do some catching up with Cheren and Bianca (Belle) for a while, her mom finds the Mask in her room while tidying up for a bit. The rugged, ghastly wooden likeness of a face was unnerving, almost if its gaze locked on her.

Some time after a practice battle with Bianca, Hilda gets a call on the X-Transceiver. A familiar looking woman appears on screen, however her face was covered in a green film almost like a facial pack but much more dense. "Mom?" she thought. The lime faced woman pouted "Sweetie, you've been leaving me in the dust lately ever since your journey -- " an elongated arm pulled Hilda inside the X-Transceiver's screen taking her back home " -- why not spend some quality time with mommy for a change?"

There's no doubt, Hilda's mom had put on that Mask...

NOTES

-The backgrounds are just lifted straight from the games, rather than supplementary material. This was one of the background references given [link] in addition to the game screenshots, but only because I worried if the game shots would be scarce for details.

-A lot of time was spent with me being fickle about the Mask face designs. That'll probably be more common with me this year than you think <_< ...

-I didn't bother trying to emulate Sugimori's watercolor brush style here like I slightly attempted with Loki-Green. Just my "normal" style here. The shading of the hair did take SLIGHT cues from the original Sugimori (Ohmura?) artwork though.

-Notice the colors of the books on Hilda's side...no Crystal colored books unfortunately, they don't print those editions anymore.

-I would imagine Spring Cleaning would be kinda fun if you had The Mask's powers. Just imagine how fast you'd get things done ._.

-The mirror Hilda has is very similar to Peggy Brandt's mirror in the episode Counterfeit Mask. Similarly, one of the rejected concepts/poses for Tifa's picture involved this as well.
